Denali National Park and Preserve

Alaska has a saying that "Everything is bigger in Alaska - except the trees".  And this seems true when you realize the enormous size of the state and the amount of land set aside for parks.  Denali National Park and Preserve is over 6 million acres in size and while not the largest park it certainly is the most beautiful.  Denali means "the high one" or "the great one" depending on who you ask in Alaska.  The park is famous for its beauty, wildlife, ruggedness, isolation and of course the highest mountain in North America - Mt.  McKinley, or Mt. Denali to the locals.

The following photographs are from the entrance area and the interior of the park including the backcountry area.  The backcountry is at the end of a 92 mile long winding road.  The areal shots were taken from a small aircraft while flying over the Alaska Range.  I was fortunate enough take the flight on and extremely clear day.  The weather and cloud cover can quickly change over the mountains.
